Roomle, an exciting new application for planning and decorating rooms, is now available at the AppStore. It makes drawing floorplans easier than ever. And the new, unique markerless augmented reality view supports the sometimes challenging decision-making about furnishing and decoration.
With 170.000 registered users, Roomle counts among the most popular online planning tools for home and office spaces. Initially focussed on web and desktop, and famous for its user-friendly design, Roomle now extends its set of functionalities to the mobile world with an iOS-App fürs iPad.
What does this app offer?
Creating the user interface of the Roomle iPad app, developers went back to the drawing board and started from scratch to provide outstandingly easy, intuitive handling. Perfect support in drawing on the touchscreen was a main concern. To create a floorplan in the Roomle app, all a user has to do is sketch a rough polygon. The app automatically converts the sketch to straight walls in a floorplan, with dimensions and angles open for easy corrections in a later phase. The Roomle furniture catalog offers hundreds of items, from furniture to decorative accessories. The user can even define floor materials and wall colors, winding up with a completely furnished and decorated living or working space. Like the web version, the app provides 3D views in which users can walk through their plans and view the results from all angles. For getting second opinions, the views can be shared with friends via e-mail.
AR technology for the ultimate reality check
To support decision-making, a next step gives the ultimate reality check, offering augmented reality to place the chosen furniture into a video view of the real room. Up to now, such AR views required the placing of markers. Now, for the first time, Roomle offers fully markerless augmented reality. The app will be marketed in a freemium program. Download is free. Creating, furnishing and viewing the first floorplan is free as well. Parallel creation and use of multiple plans, typically for business purposes, can be activated for a modest fee.
Point of contact for retail
The new app is a considerable leap forward for the whole Roomle project. “The potenials are obvious”, says Albert Ortig, Roomle mastermind and CEO of the digital agency Netural. “This mobile app offers a sophisticated point of contact for e-commerce in furniture retail.” Online retail turnovers in the furniture business are on a steady rise. The mobile Roomle version is the perfect marketing tool, not only for online shops, but also for drawing customers into brick&mortar outlets. Because no matter where they order in the end, furniture buyers 2.0 first get their information on the web – or, in this case, from an app. Roomle is well on the way to becoming a furniture and decoration marketplace with planning and visualisation as tangible service benefits.
